The Prius and the Smoker

When it comes to a Prius, a few words come to mind:
- Green
- Energy Efficient
- Boulder, CO
- Healthy minded individual

So, when I saw a man driving down the road in his Prius while smoking a cigarette, it triggered some thoughts. First off... I tried to take into consideration that maybe this man was given the Prius as a rental car, and that he didn't have any other options. Second, maybe his car was broken and it was his significant others' car.

Aside from that, I imagine a Prius driver to embody the utmost form of respect for not only the earth, but themself! To me, a Prius isn't the most eye appealing vehicle on the planet, so it makes me think that most people purchase a Prius for its earth saving abilities. Say this puffer man purchased this vehicle... why would he try to save the earth by driving it, and not try to keep himself alive a long time too? Awfully pessimistic, don't you think? Some humans baffle me.

"Sense shines with a double luster when it is set in humility. An able yet humble man is a jewel worth a kingdom." - William Penn

Humble: not proud or arrogant; modest

Humility: the quality or condition of being humble; modest opinion or estimate of one's own importance, rank.

Honorable people are those who have the ability to humble someone. I recently have been given the privilege to know two incredible people who have humbled me, quite possibly without even knowing they have done so.

Striving to be humble is not something that can be done. It's a trait that is acquired through daily trials and tribulations, as well as lifelong battles. Life is what makes somebody humble.

Could somebody write a book on how to be humble? Yes. Would I read it? No. I prefer to get my humble pie from people who are willing to let me into their lives. When people display the courage to press on, through ailments, issues, and other various hardships, it truly touches people. One could feed off of this courage.

Humbleness and humility are beautiful words. Being humble doesn't mean that somebody is timid, it means that they have experienced things that keep them modest. It is not their duty to give people doses of their humbleness, but rather people to take in their offerings in order to humble themselves.

EchoChick's Psychology of Exercise

My undergraduate degree is in Exercise Science, from CSU. I have never taken a class in exercise or sport psychology... I bring my thoughts to you stritcly from things I've seen while working out at my local 24 Hour Fitness.

When it comes to exercise psychology, I have been analyzing the different behaviors of people that are working out around me. There are many types of people; weight/power lifters, body builders, runners, both young and old people, male and female, as well as people like myself. I go to the gym to workout because morbid obesity scares me.

My first question: Why do people work out?

I will analyze young (estimated age 20 to 35) men first. Most would think that young men exercise to get a chiseled body to attract whom they are interested in. But upon focusing on a pair of young men weight training together, something makes me think it's more of a competition between them. One man does his set, and the other man follows. When one ups the weight, so does the other. The second man struggles to do a set with the weight selected by the first lifter. This makes me think that the second lifter is competing with the first lifter. Is it a constant battle of one up-ing the other? This form of lifting is competitive in nature.

If you were to compare an older man (estimated age 36 and up) with a younger man, would this be completely competitive in nature as well? I would say yes.

When it comes to females, weight training in particular seems as though it's not competitive. So many women have a complex developed in their head that makes them want to do anything and everything to have a perfect figure. In my case, when I weight train, run, do yoga, swim... it is to ensure that I fit into that certain pair of jeans. Not to say that all females have a mindset like me, but I would say a vast majority do. How are the mindsets of men and women so different when it comes to exercise? (Yes...some are the same.)

Why do you workout?
- Lose weight?
- Compete?
- Train for a marthon?
- Boredom?
* To name a few*
